PROPESQ
The Prorectorate for Research and Innovation – PROPESQ is a central executive body of Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina whose aim is to assist the Rector in matters related to research, innovation, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, and business incubation.
PROPESQ seeks to contribute to the realization and strengthening of UFSC’s social role in the fields of research and technological innovation through institutional policies, the development and maintenance of information systems on projects and related activities, and the dissemination of research results produced within the University.
Research at UFSC is carried out by faculty members, technical-administrative staff, graduate and undergraduate students, as well as independent and volunteer researchers. PROPESQ provides support and guidance to all categories of researchers through its specific coordination offices. It also oversees UFSC’s Central Multi-User Laboratories, Research Ethics Committees, and several Advisory Committees.
The main responsibilities of the Prorectorate for Research and Innovation are:
- coordinate the implementation of actions related to the University’s research policy as established by the University Council;
- promote and support institutional policies, projects and activities related to research;
- ensure compliance with research-related legislation and regulations at various institutional levels, including the Research Council, academic units, departments and supplementary bodies;
- promote and support the development of individual and collaborative research at departmental, interdepartmental and interinstitutional levels;
- encourage, authorize and supervise scientific and technological research projects, as well as science management and technology transfer projects, ensuring their compliance with legal requirements and alignment with the public interest;
- coordinate fundraising initiatives for research projects, including those related to CT-INFRA (national fund for science and technology infrastructure), multiuser laboratories, incubators, tax incentive mechanisms, and budget decentralization;
- provide opinions and support negotiations concerning agreements, partnerships, and contracts related to research, development, and the commercialization of UFSC technologies, with a focus on intellectual property matters, whenever the University is directly or indirectly involved.
- propose and manage partnerships exchange with external organizations to foster research development;
- oversee the collection, organization and dissemination of data on the scientific and technical output of UFSC faculty and researchers; and
- perform other activities pertaining to the area or that may be delegated by the Rector.
